Tipperary Town is located in
County Tipperary. It name derives from Gaelic for "Well of Ara." It is a market town in the heart of the Golden Vale and lies on the main route between
Limerick and
Cashel.
King John of England built a castle here towards the end of the 12th century and an Anglo-Norman settlement developed. The Augustinians started an establishment here in the 13th century, of which the chancel arch remains.
