Located in Butler County, in the Central Region of the state and is part of the Wichita, Kansas metropolitan area. Population 2000: 8,423 Elevation of 1328 feet. Located at the confluence of the Walnut River and Whitewater rivers and 13 miles south of El Dorado, the county seat. Augusta is near the Butler County State Fishing Lake & Park.

The first schoolhouse in the county was built in Augusta in 1869. Augusta hosts an air museum, a 1935 movie palace, a historical museum and numerous antique stores.
