Belleville

The famed "fastest 1/2 mile dirt track in the world!"

Pop. about 3500 The elevation is about 1486 feet. Located in in the North Central Region of the state, in Republic County (of which it is the county seat), north of Salina along US Highway 81 near Pawnee Indian Village Museum and Concordia to the south. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 2,330, a decrease of 187 since 1990.

The Belleville townsite was organized in September of 1869.

The Belleville High Banks is a historic dirt track built in the 1920's for racing events that encompassed everything from horse races to motorcycles. Many national racing events are held here. Rocky Pond is a 26 acre lake located north on main street (M Street) and east on 12th.
