Population: (2000) 500 Elevation: 1085ft. Located in the Central Region of the state, in Coffey County on Hwy 130. A suburb of Emporia,(16 miles), Hartford is midway between Topeka, (60 miles), and Wichita. Hartford is located in the beautiful valley of the Neosho river, on the Missouri Pacific Railway.

Outdoor recreation is near the Neosho River and the Cottonwood River. The John Redmond Reservoir & Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge are also nearby. The northern boundry of Lyon County is near and parallels the Old Santa Fe Trail. Many settlers, on their way west found this county delightful and ideal for homesteading and town building.

Heart of America Shakespeare Festival Kansas City MO June18-July7 The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival is set under the stars in South Moreland Park near Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. It is a perfect way to spend a summer evening with family and friends. They have several programs to study and explore such as Speaker's Bureau and Poster and Sonnet Contest. The faculty includes theatre professionals, actors, and educators experienced in performing and teaching Shakespeare. Many of the instructors are veterans of festival productions.
