Lucas Kansas

Founded: 1887, Population: 436 (2000), Elevation: 1500 ft.

Lucas is located in Russell County northwest of Russell along Highway 176 near the Saline River and Wilson Lake.

The Lucas economy is based upon agriculture, nestled in the heart of Post Rock Country and the Smoky Hills region of the state. Find this town at the junction of K-18 and K-232 highways just eight miles north of Wilson Lake. The state of Kansas has designated Highway 232 as the Post Rock Scenic Byway.

The Adams Apple Festival is held the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. The festival has craft and food booths, parade, games, entertainment, barbecue and more. The 2004 festival will be held Saturday September 4th.
