. The name Osage comes from the Osage river, (See Marais des Cygnes River
), the headwaters of which stream drain almost the entire county. Osage City has abundant access to recreational areas. Their proximity to the Kansas City, (85 miles), area makes this area ideal to raise a family. Osage City currently has four city parks; 1.) Lincoln Park, 2.) Santa Fe Park, 3.) Huffman Park, and 4.) Jones Park. Jones Park includes the swimming pool, ball diamonds, skating rink, tennis courts, and high school football field. The recreation also uses the gymnasiums under USD #420 authority.
Nearby are the Melvern Lake and Pomona Lake - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Reservoirs.
