Founded on 1865, Population: (year 2000): 3,034. Elevation: 1085 ft. and is located in Osage County. The name Osage comes from the Osage river, (See Marais des Cygnes River), the headwaters of which stream drain almost the entire county. Osage City has abundant access to recreational areas. Their proximity to the Kansas City, (85 miles), area makes this area ideal to raise a family. Osage City currently has four city parks; 1.) Lincoln Park, 2.) Santa Fe Park, 3.) Huffman Park, and 4.) Jones Park. Jones Park includes the swimming pool, ball diamonds, skating rink, tennis courts, and high school football field. The recreation also uses the gymnasiums under USD #420 authority.

Nearby are the Melvern Lake and Pomona Lake - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Reservoirs.

Heart of America Shakespeare Festival Kansas City MO June18-July7 The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival is set under the stars in South Moreland Park near Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. It is a perfect way to spend a summer evening with family and friends. They have several programs to study and explore such as Speaker's Bureau and Poster and Sonnet Contest. The faculty includes theatre professionals, actors, and educators experienced in performing and teaching Shakespeare. Many of the instructors are veterans of festival productions.
