Lake Arthur is located in Jefferson Davis Parish within the Cajun Country Region, between Lake Charles and Abbeville along Highway 14 on the shore of Lake Arthur near Mermenfau River, Jennings and Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 3,115, a decrease of 79 since 1990.
