This plantation was considered one of the wonders of the antebellum South. John H. Randolph, a wealthy sugar cane planter, commissioned
New Orleans architect, Henry Howard to design and build the most palatial home on the
Mississippi River. Randolph was not disappointed. When completed in 1859, Nottoway, the center of a self-sufficient 7,000-acre plantation, was the largest house in Louisiana.
Now being rented, it utilizes 13 rooms which vary in size and quality. There are three stories with interior/exterior corridors. Nottoway is a complete smoke-free premises and has a gift shop.
