Daniel and Martha Turnbull's creation of the Rosedown gardens beginning in 1835 came to be one of the 19th century's most famous horticultural collections. The mansion, has been occupied by the Turnbull family for over 120 years, and its rare collection of original furnishings, is one of the South's most distinguished historic home museums. His wife, Martha Barrow Turnbull, created a 17th-century French garden in the Louisiana wilderness.
