Ville Platte is located in Evangeline Parish (of which it is the parish seat) within the Cajun Country Region, north of Lafayette between Opelousas and Alexandria along Highway 167 near Mamou, Millers Lake, and Lake Chicot. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 8,722, a decrease of 315 since 1990.
