Founded in 1963 as the first professional repertory ballet company in New England, Boston Ballet has pursued its mission to bring to New England audiences the finest in classical and contemporary ballet. It has performed in the major cities of the world. It numbers over 40 dancers and 10 full-time apprentices among its artistic performers. It maintains a repertoire of more than 130 classic, contemporary and modern works At its location in Boston's South End, Boston Ballet operates an affiliate school with three locations and more than 2,000 students each year. Its Center for Dance Education offers numerous educational and outreach activities for the community. Each year Boston Ballet performs special matinees for over 10,000 school children. Boston Ballet is one of the top five ballet companies in North America and ranks among the top companies in the world.
