The Bridge was founded in 1994 by a small group of graduate students in English and Irish Studies committed to the production of plays rarely seen on the contemporary American stage. In 1996, The Bridge began producing plays independently in Boston's South End. The company also produced additional plays at the Boston Yeats Society, the Cambridge Celtic Arts Festival, the University of Connecticut, the Guinness Fleadh Festival, and Holy Cross College. The Bridge has worked with other companies to strengthen the presence and quality of small theatre in Boston. The Company has also sponsored mixed-media evenings-poetry recitations, staged readings of plays, improvisational comedy events, art exhibits - all free and open to the public.
