This museum was built on the Francis Cabot Lowell Mill Site of the Boston Manufacturing Company, the first large successful manufacturing company in the United States. It features exhibits of working machines and focuses on the American Industrial Revolution. The museum is a center for exploration of the history of industry and technology and a place to study the dynamic process of innovation in order to encourage and inspire future innovation in America. The collection includes machine tools; watches and watch-making equipment; steam engines and early automobile manufacturing; and textile mill equipment. The museum has been expanding its collection to include both the present and future of technology.
