Chicama Vineyards, founded in 1971 by the Mathiesen family, is the first bonded winery in the Commonwealth. It is located on the island of Martha's Vineyard, in the Atlantic Ocean five miles off the coast of Massachusetts. Because of it's unique maritime climate and geography, Martha's Vineyard is now recognized as a Viticultural Area by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The vineyard, located on the terminal moraine left by the glaciers which formed the island, nestles in the woods of the small town of West Tisbury, long the agricultural center of the island.
In addition to the wines, which may be tasted and purchased here, they also make a variety of fine foods: wine vinegars, mustards, salad dressings, flavored oils and jams.
