Gardner is located in Worcester County 56 miles NW of Boston between Fitchburg and Templeton along Highway 2 near Wachusett Mountain State Reserve and Gardner Heritage State Park. Located northwest of Boston off Hwy 2. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 20,261, an increase of 136 since 1990. Gardner is part of the Fitchburg-Leominster, Massachusetts metro area.
