Gropius House |
Located on Baker Bridge Rd., this house was built in 1938 by and for Walter Gropius, director of Germany's Bauhaus School and an innovative and influential architect of the 20th century. Using components ordered from catalogs and building supply stores, he produced a house that blends the Bauhaus principles of function and simplicity with New England traditions. The house has art and furnishings brought from Bauhaus workshops in Germany as well as pieces from the United States.
