House of the Seven Gables Historic Site |
This house was the inspiration for Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel. On the grounds are the 1682 Hathaway House, the 1658 Reitre Beckett House, the Counting House, Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1804 birthplace, seaside period gardens and a panorama of Salem Harbor.
The guided tour includes an introductory audio-visual program; six rooms and a secret staircase in the Gables; and six rooms in Hawthorne's birthplace. Food is available.
Open Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday noon-5pm in May through November. Daily, noon-5pm the rest of the year.
