ImprovBoston, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, offers shows in the Boston Area, at Inman Square, Cambridge. Since 1982, it has entertained audiences in New England and around the country with improvisational theater, showcasing top performers and training future stars. With mainstage shows, showcase productions, and a nationally known education program, ImprovBoston is more than just a great comedy club. In improvisational comedy, or "improv," the performers create everything on the spot: characters, stories, settings, even songs and dances. Improv descends from ancient theatrical traditions (Homeric poetry, Commedia dell'Arte). An improvised show may consist of improv games, a series of scenes and stories, audience participation and suggestions, or simply the collective imagination and experience of the performers on stage. Ultimately, there are no rules; the audience and performers share the joy of being "perfectly okay not knowing what the @#$% is going on."
