For about half a century, the North Shore Music Theatre has offered this uniquely American artform to Boston's North Shore communities. Its program offerings have been expanded to include Celebrity Concerts, a Children's Theatre, and several education programs.
Since 1960, North Shore Music Theatre has introduced young people to the performing arts through Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA). This approach has integrated theater, music and dance into the lives of children and young adults, and is the oldest and largest program of its kind in New England. In total, over 1,600,000 students have been introduced to theater through TYA! Bringing live theater to young people has proven that drama is a vital tool for learning. Due to school cutbacks, the Music Theatre's matinees have become an important supplement to diminishing arts programs in many communities. TYA is designed to spark the enthusiasm and curiosity of these young people, as well as encourage an appreciation for the arts.
