Old Cambridge encompasses several blocks around the perimeter of Harvard Square. The original town plan and many early buildings reflect Cambridge's history. Two buildings remain of those that once fronted the Common; Christ Church, built in 1761 and the 1753 Waterhouse House. Another major concentration of historic buildings is along Brattle Street, just east of Harvard Square. The most well-known mansion on the street is the Longfellow House.
