Spencer State Forest

This forest commemorates the Howe family; Elias Howe, who produced the first practical sewing machine in 1845; William Howe, inventor of the truss bridge; and Tyler Howe, inventor of the spring bed. Visitors can enjoy seasonal activities such as cross-country skiing, swimming and hiking. Picnic areas are also available.
