Located in the Walker Art Building at
Bowdoin College, this is one of the most acclaimed college museums in the country as well as one of the earliest public art collections in the country. Its permanent collections, contain more than 14,000 objects ranging from ancient to contemporary art, are the most important and comprehensive in the state.
Visits to the Bowdoin College Museum of Art are varied by regularly rotating exhibits of permanent collections as well as a program of at least 15 temporary exhibits annually. Together with gallery talks, tours, symposia, lectures and publications, the collections and exhibitions draw audiences from the region and beyond. All programs are free and open to the public; guided tours are available by appointment. Open year-round Tuesday-Sunday.
