Upper and lower galleries where different types of art are located comprise Bates College Museum of Art. In the upper gallery, one can view exhibits of contemporary and historical art, solo and group invitationals, and a year round exhibit of student work. The lower gallery contains highlights of the permanent collection. Many nearby schools use the museum as a component of fine art curriculum. The museum often puts on lectures, workshops and other programs, which are usually free of charge. The public is always welcome, and admission is free.
