The Patten Lumbermen's Museum was established to document Maine Logging History, by preserving the logging heritage and accomplishments of early inhabitants of the state of Maine. Exhibits at the museum include some of Maine's most notable contributions to the early mechanization of logging, including the Lombard steam hauler, Lombard gas hauler, and the peavey cant dog. The collections are housed in nine buildings, one a log structure made with hewn timber salvaged from two log houses built about 1840. There are models of saw mills, and an extensive collection of the tools used by the carpenters, coopers, and millwrights.
