St. Mary's School, a Mercy school, was opened on State Street in September 1914. The school began with 147 pupils in nine grades and was staffed by the sisters of Mercy. Its philosophy is reflected in the atmosphere of the school environment, in the parent/school relationship, in the curriculum, in extra curricular and enrichment activities, and in school policies and procedures. They offer a well-balanced program based on the spiritual, moral, intellectual, emotional, social, and physical needs of the student.
