Augusta is located in
Kennebec County, of which it is the county seat, northeast of
Portland between Brunswick and Waterville along Interstate 95 on the banks of the
Kennebec River near Cobbosseecontee Lake.
Augusta is the capitol city of the state of Maine.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 19,978, a decrease of 1,347 since 1990.
