Canton is in Wayne County, and in the Southeast Region (part of the Detroit, Michigan metro area).
To locate Canton, travel west from Westland on State Hwy 53. This town is also located on North Canton Center Road (just off of Hwy 53).
Canton was organized in 1834, and has maintained its original 36-square mile borders. Since using Chinese names was popular in Wayne County at the time, it was named after the city in China.
Canton's continuing growth and progression have been strongly supported by the addition of some of the most exciting new civic facilities to be found in any community. The spectacular Summit on the Park community center, which opened in the fall of 1995, is located in the heart of Canton's beautiful Heritage Park.
