The Outdoor Discovery Center (ODC) is a non-profit, outdoor education center located on a 120-acre nature preserve south of Holland, Michigan in Allegan County. The Outdoor Discovery Center was founded by Wildlife Unlimited of Allegan and Ottawa Counties who partnered with the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District in 1999 to create a facility that will service the outdoor education and recreation needs of the community and schools in the West Michigan area.
The site is home to six major ecosystems including dry meadow, tall grass prairie, lowland hardwood forest, remnant dune, pond, and wet meadow. There are 4.5 miles of walking trails that wind throughout the property. In the education building, wildlife enclosure, and the raptor education facility, there are a number of opportunities to see wild animals. According to a 2004 study, the ODC ranks in the top percentile of natural areas which exhibit significant amounts of Michigan’s native biodiversity according to the Floristic Quality Index.
The grounds are open to the public for outdoor enjoyment seven days a week, during daylight hours. There is no entrance fee, though there are fees for most scheduled programs. Office hours are follows: Mon-Fri 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sat 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and Sun Noon to 4 p.m. Please contact the ODC for more information: 616-393-WILD
