Greenville is in
Montcalm County, and in the
West-Southwest Region. This community is found at the junction of Hwy 91 and Hwy 57, north of
Belding.
Greenville was platted in 1871 and named after John Green. He sought his fortune in lumber and moved to the area from New York in the 1840s. After building a sawmill and dam, the area quickly grew into a town, financed for the most part by Green.
Today, the town of Greenville is known for refrigerator production, tool and die, plastics and other diverse manufacturing.
