As the Straits of Mackinac's first industrial complex, Mill Creek provided sawn lumber for the settlement of
Mackinac Island in the 1790s. Archeological evidence of the sawmill, a dam and several houses was discovered in 1972 by a Cheboygan high school history teacher. Today at the 625-acre state park, visitors can enjoy an exciting blend of living history demonstrations and nature interpretation along the many scenic trails.
