Lewiston is in Montmorency County, and in the Northern Region. You can locate Lewiston east of Traverse City between Gaylord and Hubbard Lake along Highway 32 near McCormick Lake and the Twin Lakes State Park.

Sitting on the eastern half of Twin Lake, Lewiston started in the early 1890s during the peak of the lumber boom when the Michelson & Hanson Lumber Co. built a mill and general store in the area. It was named after Lewiston, New York, like many northern Michigan towns which were originally settled by New York natives.

The city of Lewiston has thrived over the years serving the resort community has been developed around the lake. It is also in a prime hunting area frequented by sportsmen during the late autumn and early winter months.
