Marlette is in Sanilac County, and in the Central Region. This community is located on State Hwy 53 north Imlay City. Marlette was originally settled in the mid-1800's by people from Ontario who had heard that land with large timber and fertile soil was nearly free for the asking. The city was named after a family of settlers named "Marlatt" who had carved their name on a log shanty. Today, Marlette's rich soil produces crops of beans, corn, and sugar beets. There are also many sod and dairy farms. Modular homes are constructed and distributed from the area and some of the major factories produce automotive parts. Marlette also features a municipal swimming pool, a public golf course and a hard surface municipal airport.
