Began in 1980 as the
Marquette Maritime Museum Association, the museum was opened in the old City Waterworks building in 1982. The building is an old sandstone structure. It is a wonderful adaptive use of this old and historic Jacobsville sandstone building. Displays include boats and models, children's hands-on exhibits, antique engines, photographs, and charts. The dockside offices of
Marquette's first commercial fishing and passenger freight companies are recreated, and a replica of a fishing shanty contains items related to sport fishing.
