In June 1953, a twister ripped through northeast Michigan, forcing the just-built Tawas St. Joseph Hospital in
Tawas City, Michigan, into service a couple weeks ahead of schedule. That hospital eventually grew into a health system, with several outlying clinics and services that reach out to the surrounding communities.
The medical community associated with the St. Joseph family is one of the finest in northeastern Michigan. Primary care and specialty services are readily available. Continual expansion of outreach efforts of hospital sponsored clinics and ambulatory care centers as well as partnering with other providers positions the St. Joseph Health System at the forefront of health care delivery.
