Portage Health System began the new millennium by bringing Western Upper Peninsula residents a future of caring in a new, state-of the-art medical building on Hancock's Quincy Hill. Located in the population center of the ruggedly beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula, Portage has a long history as the area's premiere healthcare institution.

In addition, the Portage Hospital Emergency Department and Walk-In Care Service, offering 24 hour physician coverage, is staffed by five full-time physicians; and, as the birthing center of the Keweenaw with more than 400 deliveries a year, the family birthing center is served by two obstetrician-gynecologists and three family practice physicians.
