Search Mendon Michigan

Mendon is in St. Joseph County, and in the West-Southwest Region. You can locate this community east of Three Rivers along State Hwy 60.

In 1829 a trader by the name of Gabriel Godfroy, was the first settler to the area. A Moses Taft moved here in 1835 from Mendon, Massachusetts. In 1837, a Benjamin House mover traveled here from Mendon, New York. House named the city Mendon in 1844, and it was then platted a year later. In 1858, it was given a station on the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad, leading to its steady growth. It was later incorporated into a village in 1875.

Mendon retains its small-town atmosphere today with turn-of-the-century street lighting and a brick walkway to the park by the St. Joseph River. It has several small stores, businesses and resorts. Canoeing is also a popular sport in town, with several pull-outs curving along the river.
