Milan is in Monroe County, and in the Southeast Region. This community is located between Dundee and Ann Arbor along US Hwy 23.

Milan was first pioneered in 1831 by John Marvin. The community began under the name of Farmersville. It was later changed to Tolanville, and next to Woodwards Mills, after David A. Woodward constructed a mill here and became the towns first postmaster. In 1836, it was renamed Milan, after Milan, Italy, because of the huge number of grapes that grew in the area. It was incorporated as a village in 1885, and then later as a city in 1967.

Milan's economy is supported by several large businesses and manufacturing facilities.
