Munising Michigan |
Munising is in Alger County (is the county seat), and in the Northern Region. This community is located northeast of Escanaba between Marquette and Grand Marais along Highway 28 near Au Train Bay and Au Train Lake, and also situated on the shore of Lake Superior.
In 1894, businessman Timothy Nester and his associates saw the development potential for the struggling town of Munising because of the lumber and iron resources available. Munsing was incorporated as a village in 1897, and organized as a city in 1915.
Today, Munsing is home to such scenic Pictured Rocks attractions as Miners Castle, several waterfalls, and seasonal boat rides beside the coastline. Its many resorts, cottages and motels accommodate thousands of visitors who come to this picturesque region each season.
