Novi is in Oakland County, and in the Southeast Region. just northwest of Detroit between Brighton and Royal Oak along Interstate 96 near Walled Lake and Plymouth. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 44,760, an increase of 11,762 since 1990. Novi is part of the Detroit, Michigan metro area. Novi was first settled in 1825 by Erastus Ingersoll, from Ontario, New York. It later incorporated as a village in 1958. Today, Novi is a highly developed suburb and on the go with the construction of a "new" downtown area at Novi Rd. and Grand River, which includes several shopping malls.
