Southgate is in Wayne County, and in the Southeast Region (part of the Detroit, Michigan metro area). This community is located off of I-75 and southeast of Taylor.Pierre Michel Campau was the first white settler to this area in 1795. The Ecorse Township settlement was a farming community until it was incorporated as a village in 1955. Shortly after in 1958, it was incorporated as a city.
