Taylor is located in Wayne County just southwest of Detroit between Lincoln Park and Ypsilanti along Interstate 94 on the banks of the Detroit River near the United States/Ontario border. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 72,551, an increase of 1,740 since 1990. Taylor is part of the Detroit, Michigan metro area. Jared Sexton was its first supervisor. The township was named for General Zachary Taylor, who was then known for his victories in the Mexican War.
