Taylor is located in Wayne County just southwest of Detroit between Lincoln Park and Ypsilanti along Interstate 94 on the banks of the Detroit River near the United States/Ontario border.

In 1830, Peter Coan was the first person to settle this Wayne County area.

In 1830, Peter Coan was the first person to pioneer this Wayne County area. In 1847, Taylor Township was constructed. Jared Sexton was its first supervisor. The township was named for General Zachary Taylor, who was then known for his victories in the Mexican War.
