Spring Lake

Spring Lake is in Ottawa County, and in the West-Southwest Region. This community is located just west of Grand Rapids between Grand Haven and Grand Rapids along US Highway 31 on the banks of the Grand River near the shore of Lake Michigan.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 2,592, an increase of 55 since 1990.

Spring Lake is part of the Grand Rapids-Muskegon-Holland, Michigan metro area.

Spring Lake began when Canadian Captain Benjamin Hopkins constructed a mill here on the Grand River waterway to Lake Michigan. Originally called Hopkins Mill, the name was later changed to Spring Lake when the Grand Haven & Milwaukee Railroad built a station in the area. It incorporated as a village in 1869.

Today, the lake remains the towns most popular attraction, with tourism as its main industry.
