Woodhaven is located in Wayne County, just south of Detroit between Lincoln Park and Monroe along US Highway 24 on the banks of the Detroit River near Lake Erie and the United States/Ontario border.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 13,736, an increase of 2,105 since 1990.

Woodhaven is part of the Detroit, Michigan metro area.

This six square-mile area in Brownstown Township was incorporated as a village in 1961. Its chief developers were Roy Short and the first village president, Edward Sedlock.
