Construction of this Chapel began on July 16, 1877, and the chapel was dedicated with the first Mass being offered on the Assumption. The people faithfully kept their promises to meet on weekends to thank the Virgin for her prayers, and beautiful outdoor processions would mark Assumption Day with a special character. A tornado, however, destroyed the chapel on June 28, 1894. The chapel was rebuilt in 1952, and services continue regularly. All the Minnesota records indicate that there has never been a grasshopper epidemic again since 1877.
