In Lakes of the Northern Lights Region, Aurora calls itself "The Star of the North," and celebrated its Centennial in 2003. On Hwy 135 east of Virginia, it is in St. Louis County, and is on the Mesabi Trail, which transverses 25 communities from Grand Rapids to Ely for hiking, biking, skiing or snowshoeing.
