Cascade River State Park |
The scenic river rushing over black volcanic rock, and grand waterfalls set within a lush moss- and fern-covered gorge are the centerpieces of Cascade River State Park. Hike trails through birch, spruce and white cedar, featuring views of Lake Superior; the park maintains 17 miles of cross-country ski trails and 2 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. Trails connect with the Superior Hiking Trail and the North Shore State Trail, drive-in and backpack campsites available. Snowshoeing is allowed anywhere in the park, except on groomed ski trails. Pads for RVs available; group camp available until end of October. Naturalist programs and park tours begin in June. Park open daily, 10am-2pm; reservations recommended weekends and holidays. Located 10 miles southwest of Grand Marais; the office is just off State Highway 61.
