Calumet is located in
Itasca County, northeast of Grand Rapids on US 169 near Swan Lake, in the
Woods and Waters Region. Named after the Indian peace pipes, Calumet became a permanent community when the Hill Mine was put into operation. Mining is still the principal focus.
