In the Superior North Shore Region, the harbor town of Grand Marais is located in Cook County (of which it is the county seat) in northeast Minnesota along Hwy 61 on the shores of Lake Superior, near Cascade River State Park. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,382, an increase of 211 since 1990.
