Though Broadway is still considered to be the center of American theater, the founding of the Guthrie, and others like it, began a dynamic growth that reflected the nation's increasingly cosmopolitan nature. From June through April, the resident repertory company presents a variety of performances. The contemporary building seats more than 1,300 in a 180-degree arc around a thrust stage. Backstage tours are offered Saturday at 10am. Performances are given Tuesday-Thursday 7:30pm, Friday-Saturday 8pm, Sunday 7pm. Matinees on Saturday and occasionally on Wednesday and Sunday 1pm; special events on Monday evenings. Reservations are required.
