The Lake Wobegon Trail is a 28-mile-long, 10-ft-wide surfaced pathway that takes hikers and bikers from the city of Avon to Sauk Centre along the MN/DOT rail corridor formerly owned by Burlington Northern Railroad Company. The trail is also available for snowmobiling; use of metal studs on snowmobiles is prohibited on the trail to help minimize damage caused by studs to the snowmobile tracks. Later additions to the trail are planned which include construction of a 9.4 mile bike-able section from Albany to Holdingford in late summer 2001; another future expansion will link Avon to St. Joseph.
